Good friends, Good Beer, Good Food!

As I can see, it was a nice sunny evening in downtown Toronto. Poor attempt to catching a street car run by.

Had a great evening out with Dylan and Ainslie!  We went and grabbed a couple pints at a local (really local.. literally up the street) pub.  This spot (The Ceili Cottage) is a proper Irish pub, small, crowded, Irish music playing (they even mentioned PEI and NS in a song), and the real kicker.. the majority of the people working there were younger Irish immigrants   Doesn't get much more authentic than that.  We were jumping the gun a bit as Saint Patrick's Day is today.. but you wouldn't know it at this spot.

We had a pint of Guinness, and tried a couple local beers as well (one a dark ale on Cask, served with a beer pump).  Great starter to the evening.

They even had a couple boxes of PEI potatoes holding the kitchen door open!

Then we headed to a local wood fired oven pizza place.  Really really great pizza, proper Neopolitan style done very well.  They had a nice Prix Fixe menu which some tasty appetizers and dessert.  We all left full and happy.

Dylan and I finished off the night with a taste of the Brewnoser's barrel aged Porter from the keg in the cube. This was actually my first time tasting it as well.  It was quite good actually.  Could definitely still use some age but it is full of complex flavours, especially the nice vanilla note. I didn't really get the tartness that some other Brewnoser's had commented on when they tasted their share of the barrel's bounty.

Great night in Toronto!  Let's see what my first (only?) Saint Patrick's Day in Toronto will bring.

  1. Looks like the pub that Dylan took me to when I was visiting. The very same pub where the waiter said "we don't serve Coors Light around here"... in a justifiably surly voice I might add.

  2. Haha, yes we spoke of your 'embarrassing' story! :)

I think that same guy served me a proper pint of Guinness when we first arrived. He seemed friendly enough, ha

  3. Not sure the neighbors know what to make of all the cube van drinking...
