First stop, Fredericton

So I've made it to Fredericton without any issues.  I decided to start with a short day the first day so it wouldn't be so long a drive to make it to Montreal tomorrow.  Made the trip in about 5 hours, which is about right for ~90 km/h average.  Seems low as I typically do ~110 km/h on the flat sections, and a little less on the 'up hill' sections (and quite a bit slower on the steeper stuff).  If the scangauge (little trip computer I bought, mainly for the ability to monitor the oil temperature in the engine) is correct, the gas mileage is 'just' fair.  I was thinking 10 MPG (US).. more like 7.5!

The calculation may be off though, as I was supposed to do some sort of calibration step but ran out of time.  I'll find out at the pump in the morning.  I don't really care, it is what it is.

Other than that, truck seems to work good.  The oil temp/water temp differential is right on target (a known 'trouble spot' with this engine, which is why I'm keeping an eye on it).  It has enough power, though I have it loaded up pretty good I'd say.  Few points;

- a windy day is a busy day at the wheel!  Especially with fairly sloppy steering (I'm sure they are all like this)
- diesels are loud , but it isn't unbearable.  I just turn the music up.
- ride is good, it is fairly easy to drive really other than the sloppy steering.  At one point I was convinced it was pulling to the right all the time, but I think it was just the crown in the road.

No real interesting pictures, though I took this one coming up on Fredericton.

Now I'm headed downtown Fredericton for a pint and some food. I've had a couple of spots reccomended so I'll walk down and see what I can find.  Maybe I'll have a celebratory whiskey at "Lunar Rogue" , known for their selection?

Cheers!

  2. Snooty Fox and Lunar Rogue both. Sorry that you're leaving, but looking forward to you visiting YHZ, or me visiting YYC for a pint.
